Two-Gallon New York City Stoneware Advertising Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, attributed to Cornelius Vaupel, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY, circa 1885, semi-ovoid jug with tapered spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a stylized branch, embellished with dotted trails. Impressed above with the advertising, "CALLAHAN & KEMP / 41 VESEY ST / NEW YORK." Cobalt highlights to advertising and capacity mark. A spout chip with a 1 1/4" x 3/4" line extending through it. A horizontal hairline through handle. H 13 1/2".
