Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed daisy flanked by leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced PA collection, purchased by the consignor between 1963 and 1975. A 3 3/4" crack on underside, continuing 9 3/4" up side of jar, stopping below handle. Very minor nicks to rim and inner rim for lid. A stained area on left side of jar. H 11 3/4".
