Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX. / HARRISBURG . PA," circa 1865, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large brushed flower blossom surrounding the number "2." Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced PA collection, purchased by the consignor between 1963 and 1975. A tight, approximately 8" long horizontal crack extending from right side of crock onto front. This crack includes a few short cracks that emanating off from it. Staining to exterior and interior. H 11 3/8".
