Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration, NY State origin, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a chicken pecking kernels of corn from a stylized ground. Significant restoration throughout, not affecting decoration. Handles are painted, although the extent of their restoration is unknown. An in-the-firing iron ping to underside. A 4" Y-shaped surface line to reverse. Two small in-the-firing iron pings to side of crock and a 1 1/4" bloated spot to shoulder on reverse. Crock is somewhat out-of-round. H 12 1/8".
