Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, James River Valley of Virginia origin, circa 1830-1850, ovoid jug with tooled spout and footed base, decorated with a boldly-brushed floral motif distinctive to the James River Valley of Virginia. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Strong decoration and excellent color. Excellent condition with two adjacent chips to foot, measuring a total of 1 1/4", and an embedded stone near base. H 14".
