Fine Glazed Redware Tobacco Jar, Stamped "JOHN BELL," Waynesboro, PA, circa 1840-1880, cylindrical jar with footed base, squared rim, and ropetwist handles, the surface decorated with sponged manganese and covered in a clear lead glaze. Includes manganese-decorated lid. Jar impressed with "JOHN BELL" maker's mark on underside and lid impressed with "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'" mark on underside. Desirable form. Very nice condition with a small chip to interior of rim, a minor nick to exterior of rim, minor wear to rim and handles, and a small chip to underside at edge. Small chips to underside of lid. H (including lid) 7 1/2".
