Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "THOMAS & BRO. / HUNTINGDON PA," circa 1875, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with two tulips emanating from a central stem. Incised "4" above. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Provenance: Estate of author and historian, Nancy Shedd, Petersburg, PA. Chips to interior of rim. A 1 3/4" hairline from rim on front, relational to a large, in-the-firing crack on interior that is not visible on exterior. Two large, brown in-the-firing discolored areas to reverse. A 4 3/4" hairline from rim on reverse. H 12 1/2".
