Rare Cold-Painted Stoneware Face Urn, late 19th or 20th century, slab-built form with pedestal base, featuring a hand-modeled and sculpted clay face, including a prominent beard and open mouth with carved teeth. Incised hair throughout. Applied floral embellishment to rim. Carved, rectangular-patterned necklace. Original black paint with white, green, red, and pink accents. Composed of a dense, gritty, iron-rich clay consistent with some pieces produced in the Southeastern United States. Losses to base. A 1 3/4" chip to interior of rim. Other small chips and minor to beard, rim, and one ear. H 11 1/2".
