Rare Large-Sized Stoneware Snake Jug with Albany Slip Glaze, Southern U.S. origin, late 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base and narrow, flaring spout, decorated with a large applied figure of a snake with incised scale, eyes, and mouth. Surface covered in a mottled brown Albany-slip-type glaze. An unusually large example of this American ceramic folk art form. Spout chips. Two small chips to mouth. H 9 1/2".
