One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXA," Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1845, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front with a brushed design of a sunflower, including foliate devices emanating from the blossom. Reverse decorated with a horizontal sunflower motif beside a brushed circle. A 3 3/8" loss to rim. Chips to interior of rim. A chip to reverse end of one handle. A spider crack on side of jar, extending from base to handle. Large network of thin cracks around base. A small network of thin lines at midsection on reverse. Small base chips. An in-the-firing fissure on underside, not visible on interior. H 12 3/8".
