Extremely Rare Miniature Redware Vase, Inscribed "Carl Roberts / Washington, Iowa / March 11, 1895," Washington, Iowa origin, 1895, wheel-thrown vase of ovoid form with footed base, tall neck, and open loop handles. Underside incised with potter's signature, location, and date. Vessel appears to have a light glaze coating that may be lead-based. Buff clay on interior. Relatively few examples of signed Iowa redware are known. A crack in one lower handle terminal suggests one handle may be reglued. Otherwise excellent condition. H 2 3/4".
