Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "BELL," Peter, Samuel, and/or Solomon Bell, Winchester, VA, circa 1835, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and extruded lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a sinuous vine bearing leaves and three open-centered tulip blossoms. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed under one handle with "BELL" maker's mark along with a three-gallon capacity mark. Excellent condition with a slightly-recessed area to right side of jar. Very nice condition with a handle chip and some in-the-firing contact marks to shoulder area. H 14".
