Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird-and-Floral Decoration, Stamped "W.H. FARRAR & Co. / GEDDES, N.Y.," circa 1860, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and slightly-flared rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a looping flourish with a spotted flower emanating to the bird's left. Elaborate feather detail to bird and brushed highlight to wing, Slip -trailed "2" t shoulder. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Heavy rim chips. A thin 2 1/2" crack to underside, continuing 4 1/2" up base of jar on reverse. A minor in-the-firing ping to right handle. A 1" in-the-firing base chip. Minor wear to underside at edge. A 1" Y-shaped surface line to right of bird. Some mottling to surface. H 11 1/4".
