Fine Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "ADAM CAIRE / PO'KEEPSIE NY," circa 1880, large-sized, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with fan-shaped tail perched on a tree stump with stylized ground cover below. A thin, 9 1/2" inverted Y-shaped crack below left handle. A 3 1/2" Y-shaped surface line below right handle, not visible on interior. A 7" crack from rim on left side of crock's front. This crack includes a small chip to interior of crock along crack line. A 2 1/4" crack from rim above right handle. A shallow, 5/8" in-the-firing rim chip. H 13 3/8".
