Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1865, semi-ovoid jar with tooled combed banding to midsection, tooled shoulder, and flattened rim, decorated with freehand stripes and graduated swags on the top half of the jar and a scrolled "2" flanked by dashes below. Provenance: From a fifty-year private collection. Excellent condition with staining throughout and a few minor chips to bottom edge of rim. H 11 1/2".
