Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration and Pittsburgh, PA Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, profusely-decorated with freehand stripes, spots, a flowering vine, graduated dashes, and a freehand "4," all surrounding the stenciled advertising, "KUHN & BRO. / PENN / & FRANKSTOWN / AVES. EAST END." A large vertical section of restoration, extending from base to shoulder on front. Chips to bottom edge of rim. Chips to one handle. An area of light surface wear to reverse. H 14 3/4".
