Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug with Pittsburgh, PA Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid jug with tooled spout. featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "ALEX.BIHLMAN JR. / WHOLESALE LIQUOR / 444 LIBERTY ST. / PITTSBURGH. PA." Decorated above with a freehand "2" with flourishes, between wavy freehand stripes. Additional freehand stripe at base and cobalt highlight to upper handle terminal. Two spout chips and a small glazed-over chip to molding at base of spout. Two short, faint surface lines to base on front. Minor surface wear. Two small in-the-firing contact marks to right side of jug. A tiny chip to handle. H 14 1/2".
