Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Freehand Decoration, Huntingdon Co., PA, circa 1840, ovoid jar with squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an undulating vine bearing leaves and large flower blossoms. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 1" chip to interior of rim. Some surface wear. A 2 1/4" in-the-firing dry spot (contact mark) to one side. A thin, approximately 3" crack on underside, continuing 2" up base of jar. A faint, approximately 6" Y-shaped line extending from base area to midsection. A faint 3" U-shaped surface line to underside, not visible on interior. A chip to interior base. H 11 1/4".
