Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Flower and-Berries Motif, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with squared spout, decorated with a brushed design of a flower blossom atop a spray of leaves, flanked by two stems with berries. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Rare decoration, outstanding color, and desirable large size to the jug. Very nice condition with two minor spout chips, a tiny in-the-firing iron ping to shoulder, and a 1 7/8" in-the-firing chip to bottom edge. H 17".
