Scarce Small-Sized Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Eagle-and-Banner Decoration, Stamped "WM E WARNER / WEST-TROY," NY State origin, circa 1855, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flying eagle holding a banner in its beak. Spotted details to eagle and banner. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Unusually small size to the jug, particularly for this design. Fry to cobalt. Two minor in-the-firing iron pings to base area. Edge of handle with two short cracks and a small chip. Some in-the-firing clay residue to juncture of spout and handle. A small in-the-firing contact mark to top of handle. A minor base chip. H 10 1/2".
