Fine Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Philadelphia, PA Advertising, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, ovoid jar with tall collar and applied lug handles, decorated with two brushed tulips flanking the impressed and cobalt-highlighted advertising, "MADE FOR / EMERICK & HOPKINS. / IMPORTERS OF QUEENSWARE. / No 349 NTH ST / PHILADELPHIA." Cobalt dash decoration above. Two large, sweeping tulip motifs on reverse. Vertical cobalt dash decoration under each handle and highlights to handle terminals. Among the best Remmey advertising jars that we have offered, featuring strong decoration and exceptional color. Rim chips. Minor wear to end of one handle. H 12 1/8".
