Rare and Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1845, cylindrical form with squared rim, applied lug handles, and circular bunghole, decorated on the front and reverse with a sweeping stem bearing three fan-shaped blossoms. Wavy cobalt stripe decoration to shoulder. Cobalt highlights to bunghole and handle terminals. Exceptional size. Some restoration to bunghole. Rim and base chips. Crack extending from rim to bunghole. A tiny nick to one handle. Minor wear to opposite handle. H 10 1/2".
