Four-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped "J.P. BODIE, / MAKER," Kirksey's Crossroads, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1870, ovoid jar with flaring rim and arched tab handles, the surface covered in a mottled, pale-green alkaline glaze. Impressed with J.P. Bodie maker's mark at shoulder. Provenance: A South Carolina private collection. A 3 1/2" x 1" restored section at the rim on reverse. A Y-shaped crack on underside, extending 3 1/8" up base on side of jar. A faint 3" Y-shaped surface line to midsection on reverse, not visible on interior. A minor chip to one handle. Some small spots of in-the-firing residue to surface. Some faintness to maker's mark. Minor chipping to base. H 15 1/4".
