Six-Gallon Glazed Stoneware Churn, Stamped "WM PENLAND," Buncombe County, NC, late 19th century, ovoid form with flared collar, applied strap handle, and applied lug handle, the exterior surface covered in a brown glaze, the interior covered in a green alkaline glaze. Impressed under one handle with the maker's mark of William Marion Penland below the number "6." Provenance: A South Carolina private collection. A 2 3/4" flake to rim, adjacent to a 1 1/2" flake to interior of rim. H 19 1/4".
