Quart-Sized Stoneware Jug, attributed to Chester Webster at the Edward Webster Pottery, Fayetteville, NC, circa 1820, ovoid jug with tooled spout, the surface lacking a salt glaze, but including Albany slip dripping from the mouth. Provenance: Excavated at the waster pit of Edward Webster's kiln site, Fayetteville, NC. The style of the jug indicates it was likely made by Edward's brother, Chester, known for producing a number of elaborately-incised pieces later in the century. A flake to underside of handle. Otherwise excellent condition. A 1 1/8" base flake. Light surface wear. H 9 1/2".
