Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, attributed to Chester Webster, Randolph County, NC, circa 1875, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled shoulder, the spout accented with two incised lines and impressed circles. Cobalt highlights to spout, handle terminals, and capacity mark. A long, sealed U-shaped crack from left side of spout, descending onto reverse and ascending up to the right side of the spout. This damage indicates that a very large section of the jug's side/reverse was reglued. Some additional short, thin cracks extend off from this reglued section. Minor chipping to base. H 12 1/2".
