Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Syrup Jug, Stamped "CORTLAND," Madison Woodruff and Romanzo Smith, Cortland, NY, circa 1867-1869, squat-shaped jug with pinched pouring spout, decorated with large double-blossomed tulip plant. Freehand "2" to shoulder. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Very nice condition with a 2" in-the-firing surface fissure on underside, not visible on interior, a 2 3/4" crack on underside, forming a 1 1/2" Y at base, and a tiny in-the-firing ping to interior of spout. H 11".
