Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Goony Bird, Stamped "CORTLAND," attributed to Madison Woodruff and Romanzo Smith, circa 1867-69, squat-shaped, straight-sided jar, decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt "goony bird"with front-facing crest, long tail, and spotted body. Bird is facing a flowering plant with striped petals. Rare decoration and desirable size. Includes a fitting stoneware lid, possibly not original. Short line from rim on reverse. Chips to inner ledge that holds lid. Lid in mint condition. H 9 1/4".
