Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Decoration, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK.," circa 1810, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted foliate design with splayed leaves and a brushed cobalt drape motif over the maker's mark. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Desirable size and attractive use of incised and brushed decorative elements. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, consigned by a Crolius descendant. Excellent condition with a few minor in-the-firing base chips.
