Outstanding Large-Sized Stoneware Water Cooler with Incised Floral Decoration, Stamped "M. TYLER & CO. / ALBANY," NY State origin, circa 1825, highly-ovoid form with squared bunghole, tooled shoulder, large lug handles, and slightly-flared rim. Front decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted floral motif featuring well-detailed leaves and petals, including hollow sections to the flowers. Bunghole decorated with crossing cobalt stripes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Incised "III" under one handle. One of a small number of Moses Tyler coolers in this form known, featuring strong decoration and exceptional color. The distinctive incising on this cooler indicates it was likely decorated by George Lent or an associate. Shallow chipping to rim. Firing crack to underside. Staining to surface. A faint 3 1/2" Y-shaped line to reverse. A tiny chip to interior of bunghole. H 16".
