Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration and Westfield, MA Advertising, MA origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with an intricate slip-trailed design of a flowering plant bearing two large fan-shaped blossoms with scrolled interiors and three smaller elongated blossoms interspersed with daisies. Shoulder impressed with the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "FLETCHER & NORTON / DEALERS IN / HARDWARE, PAINTS, GROCERIES &C., / WESTFIELD. MASS." Cobalt-highlighted three-gallon capacity mark above. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a recently-surfaced Brooklyn, NY collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
