Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Floral Motif, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a finely-stenciled design of a flowering plant between freehand stripes. Provenance: From a fifty-year collection. Some in-the-firing salt residue to base area on front and reverse. Inner wax sealer rim with a small chip and some wear. H 8 1/8".
