Very Rare Glazed Redware Cruet, Stamped Twice "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, finely-potted form with footed base and recessed underside, featuring an ovoid body smoothly tapering to a narrow mouth. Applied spurred handle on reverse. Surface decorated with heavy manganese sponging over a yellow ground and covered in a clear lead glaze. Unusual placement of the maker's mark below the handle. An additional John Bell maker's mark appears on the underside. One of a small number of examples of this stylish Bell form known and only the second that we have ever offered. Very nice condition with light wear to rim and handle. Glazed surface survives in exceptional condition, retaining a strong luster. H 8".
