Rare Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Devil Face Jug, attributed to Lanier Meaders, Cleveland, GA origin, circa 1970, ovoid jug with applied clay devil's face including crooked eyes with black pupils, horns, contorted nose, pointed ears, and angled mouth with quartz teeth, the surface covered in a dark-olive alkaline glaze. Underside incised with Lanier Meaders signature. Rare and highly desirable form, featuring an outlandish facial expression. Loss to one horn. Possible damage to teeth, though also possibly as-made. H 9".
