Extremely Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Federal Shield Decoration, probably KY origin, circa 1825-1840, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and small tab handles, decorated on the front with a brushed design of a Federal shield with star and stripes. Reverse decorated with an unusual design of a flowering plant emanating from a stylized ground with shrubs. Cobalt highlights to tops of handles and a wavy stripe of cobalt below each handle. Chips to rim, base, and handles.
