Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "NEW YORK / STONEWARE CO / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.," circa 1875, large-sized, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with ringed neck and long tail, perched on a stump flanked by ground cover. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Restoration to rim on front of crock, extending partway onto rim on sides of crock. An area of restoration to front of crock above decoration and to right and left of bird's head, not touching decoration. A 4 3/4" surface line to left side of crock. A few small chips to interior of rim. H 12 7/8".
