Highly Unusual Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Horse Decoration, NY State origin, 19th century, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and squared rim, the surface covered in Albany slip and decorated with a stenciled cobalt design of two trotting horses atop a brushed ground. Numerous tiny to small chips to rim. An X-shaped hairline on underside, which continues onto jar in four places. In one place it forms a wide Y at base, in another it continues 2" up body of jar, and in two other places it forms a very short vertical line at base. H 7 1/2".
