Exceedingly Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Canning Jar, Marked "CONNELLSVILLE POTTERY.," Connellsville, PA, circa 1885, cylindrical, twelve-sided jar with salt-glazed exterior and Albany-slip-glazed interior, the underside featuring the embossed maker's mark and capacity, "CONNELLSVILLE / POTTERY. / 1/2 GALLON." A shallow 2 1/2" in-the-firing flake to underside at edge, which is partially glazed over. Heavy chipping to rim. Lesser chipping to inner rim, designed to hold a tin canning lid. H 8 1/4".
