Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Inscription, "Brigton(sic) / J.N," and Incised "B," probably Beaver County, PA, circa 1865, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and flattened rim, decorated with the freehand inscription, "Brigton(sic)," possibly for New Brighton, Beaver County, PA, underscored by the script initials, "J.N." Incised "B" on underside. Provenance: Recently surfaced in Western Pennsylvania. A few rim chips on reverse. A 3" crack along top of rim on reverse. A tiny in-the-firing ping to front.
