Outstanding Tanware Jar with Elaborate Albany Slip Floral Decoration and "1888" Date, New Geneva or Greensboro, PA origin, 1888, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and vertical rim molding, the front decorated in Albany slip with three fuchsias emanating from a meandering stem with graduated leaves. Side decorated with the large brushed date, "1888," underscored by two stripes. Freehand stripe to base. Exceptional form with wonderful decoration. Excellent condition with two small rim chips and a short surface line to interior of rim. The style of the rim suggests this canister was made with a domed lid. H 9 3/4".
