Very Rare Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Tomato Decoration, Stamped "FRESH TOMATOES," NY State origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a finely-brushed design of a tomato with leafy stem. Impressed with the cobalt-highlighted inscription, "FRESH TOMATOES." Appealing subject matter. The first of its kind that we have seen. A 1 1/4" chip to top of spout. Additional smaller spout chips. A thin horizontal crack through handle. A vertical 6 3/4" line to left of decoration.
