One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Coeymans, NY Advertising, NY State origin, circa 1835, ovoid jar with tall collar and applied lug handles, featuring the impressed and cobalt-highlighted advertising, "E STANTON & CO / DEALERS IN / DRYGOODS GROCERIES / CROCKERY.HARDWARE / DRUGS.MEDICINES & C / COEYMANS." Decorated below with a brushed floral motif. Coeymans refers to a small port town on the Hudson River in New York State, of which Egbert Stanton, the merchant for whom this jug was made, was a prominent citizen. A 3/8" ping on the reverse with a faint 3" Y-shaped surface line extending through it, not visible on interior. A surface flake to interior. Two in-the-firing fissures to ends of one handle. A minor in-the-firing fissure to one end of opposite handle. A few minor rim chips.
