Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, attributed to John and James Miller, Strasburg, VA, circa 1835, ovoid jar with flared base, rounded rim, and arched tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with large stem bearing three sets of graduated leaves. Appealing form and decoration by one of Strasburg's most desirable makers. Some very tight spider cracks to underside and base area, possibly in-the-making. A few small chips to one handle. Two in-the-firing contact marks to surface.
