Fine Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "CLARK & Co. / ROCHESTER," NY State origin, circa 1845, large-sized, ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a brushed design of a daisy or sunflower plant, the blossom with cross-hatched interior and spotted petals, flanked by six buds. Brushed "4" to shoulder. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Very nice condition. Spout chips. A few in-the-firing contact marks to surface. Some light staining. Some minor chipping to underside at edge.
