Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed floral spray accented with spots. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Two cracks from rim, measuring 5 3/4" and 3 3/4". A 7" diagonal crack from rim on reverse, including a small chip to interior of rim. A contact mark to rim on reverse.
