One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "SIPE, NICHOLS & CO. / Williamsport, Pa.," circa 1875, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, handle at base on reverse, and wood-and-wire bail handle, decorated on the reverse, front, and sides with a total of three drooping floral motifs. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, ears, and handle at base on reverse. Small wreath-like brushwork at base of spout. Includes old wooden lid. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a minor line to handle at base on reverse, a minor glazed-over dent at base on reverse, a minor line to spout, and a minor in-the-firing iron ping to reverse.
