Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Chicken Pecking Corn Scene, Stamped "FORT EDWARD / POTTERY CO.," George Satterlee, Fort Edward, NY, circa 1859, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a chicken pecking kernels from a well-detailed ground, beside a split-rail fence. Light cobalt highlight to maker's mark and capacity mark. A large spider crack descending from rim on reverse, which continues along base of jar and several inches up front of jar. This damage is sealed on the reverse with old restoration material. Two rim chips and a few tiny rim nicks. Minor nicks to inner rim for lid. A chip to each handle.
