Fine Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Quail Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER, JR. / ROCHESTER. N.Y.," circa 1885, large-sized crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a quail with turned head, crest, and heavily-spotted body, standing with one foot raised atop a stylized ground, flanked by shrubs. Slip-trailed "6" to shoulder. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Very nice condition with some surface lines to body of crock, not visible on interior, and some light staining. H 14 1/2".
