Unusual Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Motif, Manhattan, NY origin, circa 1800, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a slip-trailed floral design featuring splayed leaves and a central flower bud. Slip-trailed accents to handle terminals. The slip-trailed treatment of the Manhattan motif on this jar is unusual, as most such designs were incised during this period. A few filled rim chips. A 1 1/8" filled handle chip.
