Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Bird Decoration, attributed to the Whites Pottery, Utica, NY, circa 1865, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout and wood-and-wire bail handle, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a fan-tailed bird "running" atop a stylized branch. Impressed with the cobalt-highlighted number, "4," for four quarts on reverse. A thin 5" crack from rim on reverse. A minor nick to interior of spout. Some bubbling to cobalt.
